Thanks for everyone’s comments on my last post. I truly hate discussing the money, but for us, it’s a must and I know that for many of you it is as well. So, as tacky as it might be, I’m all about full disclosure.
Today, I want to tackle IVF.
This is still on the table for us. Hubs and I went to lunch today to talk about our options and how we want to move forward. The conversation definitely leaned more toward IVF then it ever had before. With IVF, we do not have the reimbursement of funds from hubs’ company, but we do have options for funding – such as medical loans and payment plans, etc. And, we could take it one IVF treatment at a time. The one plus of going this route is that ALL medication is paid for with my hubs prescription insurance. That’s a big savings ($3,000 - $8,000).
So…today I’ve set up an appointment with our IVF health care provider of choice. We are NOT using the group we used last time. The last time was an AWFUL experience…and I want to go somewhere that delivers more personalized care. About two years ago, we actually went to this place, but decided against it because of their pricing at the time. Plus, we were SO new to IVF… and we went with the cheapest bargain. Lesson learned…you get what you pay for.
So, why IVF? Good question. Especially since my first and only time attempting IVF was awful.
- I’m in a better place emotionally right now…and have a much more supportive job. It’s a crazy job, but at least I have normal working hours and a boss that will understand what IVF means when I talk to her about it. After all, her son and his wife had twins with IVF.
- I’m still a little stuck on the “what-if” and “what would a little us look like:
- I'm 32 and if we’re going to try this, we need to do it now
- There are other reasons…more personal reasons…too and we’re excited to see where this might lead us.
Whatever the outcome, good or bad, I know hubs and I are in it for the long run…this is a journey after all and we’d kick ourselves if we didn’t fully vet this option.
So, I’m trying to relearn what I learned two years ago and gather all the information I need for our first appointment. If you have any suggested questions that we should be sure to ask, please post. I appreciate all feedback and support.
Are the other options off the table yet? No…they are ALL still on.

If done IVF twice - both were different protocols. Your RE will come up with a plan that works for you! Let me know if you have any specific questions!
ReplyDeleteI hope this works out for you! It's a scary and exciting place to be :)
ReplyDeleteI do being in a "good place" is important with IVF. It's a roller coaster for sure. I think one attempt at IVF is meaningless, truthfully up to 3 tries is the way to go. If it doesn't work then... (as it did not in my case...) then there's some questions that are harder to answer. But one cycle is just for knowledge if nothing else!
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of options on the table. And seems like y'all are in a good place for it!
ReplyDeleteYou need to do what's best for YOUR family. I don't think there is a wrong way to go, as long as you are at peace about it. Good luck girl!
ReplyDeleteGet a sense of what their stats are like for someone your age and with your infertility issues. Find out what protocol they would recommend for you based on your issues. As about monitoring - how early does it start, how long does it run. For me, being about to line up at 6:45am for 7am bloodwork and a quick U/S was a huge help - other places didn't open till 8am, which wouldn't have worked with my work schedule.
ReplyDeleteHope this meeting goes well!
I have done Ivf twice. It's never an easy decision both emotionally and financially. I wish you all the best and hope to hear about your journey. I was just looking at children on the adopt ontario web site. I'm hoping that we can get started on our journey.
